How Many Mailing Lists are You On?

When you first begin your journey to becoming a successful internet marketer you tend to get on a lot of marketers’ lists, don’t you?  This is understandable – you’re learning as much as you can as fast as you can so you can apply what you learn and start making an income.  There is so much to learn and it seems different marketers specialize in different areas of expertise and have unique business models.  And while it’s true you can learn oh-so-much by joining their lists and soaking up all the information in the freebies they send you, there comes a time, like now, when you’ve got to stop joining every marketer’s list.

Why?  Because you’re spending too much time reading their emails.  People who are new to internet marketing are spending all their spare moments on the computer and they’re busy. But what are they busy doing?  Reading emails which lead them to buying products which lead them to trying and abandoning techniques that don’t seem to work, and on and on.

Does this sound familiar to you? Time is a precious commodity and you’ve probably got a fulltime job.  Don’t spend all your time reading and buying instead of focusing and taking real action.

Okay, so you’re on more lists than you have subscribers to your own list.  What to do now?  Unsubscribe from most of them.  Here are a few ideas on deciding which lists to stay on and which ones to unsubscribe from.

1.  There should be a couple of marketers you follow, not because they’re gurus, but because their emails always deliver a ton of value.  These marketers like to educate you and if they’re teaching you what you need to know email after email, then by all means stick with them.  If they change tactics and start showering you with nothing but promotional emails, then unsubscribe at that time.

2.  You may want to follow a few of the top dogs in your niche so you can stay current with the latest tactics, news, trends, and info in your field.  It’s a wise move to keep abreast, especially if you’re currently creating a new product in this niche.

3.  Perhaps you have an eye towards creating a potential JV opportunity with someone.  Hop on their list so you can see what products they sell of their own, what affiliate products they like to promote, anything about their personality or personal interests, etc.  So when and if you approach them you can reference something they’ve said in an email and they’ll know you’re on their list.  Being on their list will give you a chance to get to know them, and will help you establish the beginning s of a relationship.

No one but you knows how many mailing lists you should ideally be on.  It depends on where you are in your internet marketing and what your circumstances are.  Don’t worry that you’re going to miss out on something; think instead of how much money you could be making by DOING instead of reading all the time. Rather than joining any and all lists, willynilly-like, take a strategic approach with some of the tips shared above.
